Origin is another name which has been given to EA’s download manager. The application is a rather simple one which is designed to enable you to download and play all the games produced by Electronic Arts. If you would rather download the games instead of going out to shop for them, this is the application to download.
Origin not only lets you handle all your EA premium downloads but it also decrypts the entire game, install the game and then launches it too. For example, if a game requires a DRM license (Digital Rights Management), Origin will get this license for you without prompting you to do anything at all.
The application, along with managing all your EA downloads, also helps keep you updated on all your game’s patches and various time to time updates. Bear in mind that if you opt to download EA games, it is necessary to download the Origin application as well, without which you will not be able to play the game.
All in all, Origin is a good download manager application. However, the games it downloads and manages are limited to EA games, but you’d have to wait and see whether or not it can compete with Steam.
